Advanced Training Course (ATC) Еvent “Gender Mainstreaming in Counter-terrorism Efforts in Western Balkans”– 4rt working day (19.05.2021)The fourth working day of the ATC event began with fantastic intervention by Ms Seran de Leede, Researcher and Associate Fellow for the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) – The Hague (Netherlands). During her presentation, she was elucidating the relevance of the gendered perspective for optimizing the P/CVE efforts. She emphasized the importance of social media for reaching out to women, as well as the multi-agency framework and alternative routes for empowerment.

Ms. Lejdi Dervishi, Director of The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism (The CVE Center) (Albania) has deliberated upon the hard and soft approaches for CVE and the gender perspectives. She also dwelled on the role of the CVE Center and the institutional framework for CVE in Albania.

Mr. Robert Babamovski and Ms. Maria Biscaia from UNITAD were speaking about gender consideration during ISIL investigation. They provided an introduction to UNITAD and Ms. Biscaia brought forward interesting points on gender-based and sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Another great presentation during the ATC event was delivered by Ms. Lisa Deveau, Social Worker, Ottawa Police Service, bringing forward the perspectives from the frontline on early detection and intervention. During her presentation, she was juxtaposing the social work and police aspects in P/CVE.

Perspectives from North Macedonia regarding gender mainstreaming in CT efforts were delivered by Ms. Meral Musli Tajroska, Executive Director of Pleiades and Alumna Ambassador of MotherSchools who was speaking about the role of women and mothers in preventing violent extremism.

Ms. Sara Osmani, CVE Trainer, speaking about developing Gender-Sensitive responses and integrating women in P/CVE.
