A successful conclusion of the first phase of a year-long capacity-building process on “Security Sector Governance and Accountability.”
The Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) and the Cyber Security, Corporate Security with expert support from the Crisis Management Initiative (C3I) recently concluded a workshop validating the Standardized Guidelines for Civilian Oversight of Intelligence and Security in North Macedonia. This marks the successful completion of the first phase of a year-long capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening civilian oversight of the security sector in the country.
The guidelines were developed through a collaborative effort involving civil society organizations, media representatives, and experts from DCAF and C3I. The workshop provided an opportunity for all participants to review and validate the guidelines, ensuring their relevance and applicability to the North Macedonian context.
The workshop also served as a platform for discussing strategies to enhance civilian oversight mechanisms and promote transparency and accountability within the security sector. Participants explored ways to engage with the relevant authorities, raise public awareness, and advocate for effective civilian oversight practices.
DCAF gratefully acknowledges the support of Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Sweden for this important initiative. Their contributions have been instrumental in enabling DCAF and C3I to work closely with stakeholders in North Macedonia to strengthen the governance and oversight of the security sector.
